New Delhi. Nearly 7 years have passed since former India cricketer Virender Sehwag retired from international cricket. He was one of the most explosive batsmen in the world. During his cricket career, Sehwag took a lot of news from bowlers from all over the world. Many of his innings are still in the minds of cricket fans. Despite being such a successful batsman, there came a time in his career when he started thinking of retiring from ODI cricket. Sehwag himself has disclosed this.
In the year 2008, the Indian cricket team went to play the series on the Australia tour. During this, Team India’s captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni dropped him from some ODI matches. After which he started thinking of retiring from ODI cricket. Recently, while talking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said, ‘We were in Australia in the year 2008. The thought of retirement came to my mind. I returned to Test cricket and scored 150 runs. In ODIs, I could not score in 3-4 matches. Dhoni dropped me from the playing XI. Then I thought of quitting ODIs and thought I would continue playing Test cricket.
Sachin stopped from retiring
Virender Sehwag said, ‘I was stopped by Sachin Tendulkar at that time to retire from ODIs. He told me, ‘This is a bad phase in your life. Wait a little. Think deeply on this matter then decide what to do next. Sehwag said that fortunately I did not announce my retirement from ODIs at that time. Sehwag then played for India in all three formats for 7-8 years. He was part of the 2011 World Cup winning Indian team.
Sehwag failed in CB series
Virender Sehwag was badly flopped in the Commonwealth Bank series played between India, Australia and Sri Lanka. He got a chance to play in 4 matches in which Sehwag scored 6, 33, 11 and 14 runs. After this he was dropped in 2 matches played in Adelaide. He made a comeback in the match played in Sydney. But he could score only 14 runs. India registered a historic win over Australia in the CB series. Team India beat Australia 2-0 in Best of Three Files. But Sehwag was not included in the playing XI for these matches.
